Reginal Griffin (Reggie) is an up-and-coming visual artist hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. Reggie’s body of work consists of acrylic paintings with vivid colors. Reggie’s mission is to communicate a sense of escape through captivating scenery . He invites individuals into a refreshing atmosphere created by combining different landscapes, seasons, and different times of day. In his work he hopes to provide an escape that invokes serenity.
Education
Reginal attended Fort Valley State University where he received a B.A in Visual Arts and Media Studies with a focus in Visual Illustration. During his tenure at Fort Valley State University, he committed himself to the service of others as a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity Inc., Prince Hall Masonry and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. He also received departmental honors in Visual & Performing Arts and Media Studies.
Building for the Future
In 2017, Reggie found himself home in Atlanta with a goal of making his art into a business. With little connections in the art community, he found himself starting from square one. While working at a local print shop, he met several local artists that were familiar with the art scene in Atlanta. In 2019, he created his brand Royal Light Art and Design and started to venture into selling his printed and original art at local events. Being a novice, he found it difficult to find events that catered to his target audience and had little success. In March 2020 during the beginning of the quarantine, he was out of work for two months. During this time, he developed his skills in a new medium – acrylic paint. In his transition into a new medium from colored pencil and marker, he needed more guidance to master his new craft. Fortunately, in June of 2020 he met award winning painter Charlie Palmer who began to mentor him on his path to become a painter. Now one year later, he has developed a unique style and body of work. He has also completed 40+ paintings during this time. Reggie plans to grow as an artist and live his dream.
I find myself on a journey to escape inspired by skyscapes, nature, and organisms, which are forever changing. I have noticed in my exploration there is an emotional spectrum that can be expressed in all aspects of life. By utilizing varies blends of color, tones, and shades; I am capturing moments in time that cohesively relates a subject to its environment to invoke a sense of serenity, endeavor, or reverie.
My body of work is heavily influenced by the countless hours I have invested into watching national geographic growing up. With my paintings I aim to communicate an emotional connection or disconnection between an environment and my subject matter. The worlds I escape to are always erupting with vivid colors and seamless blends, immediately inviting you in to take a closer look. Utilizing all three fields of focus from background to foreground, I create an illusion that guides views eyes through a complexed rhythm of Contemporary art.
